Club History
Charnwood Sileby Hockey Club has been around since 1947 but has taken on may names in its time. In 1947 Brush Sports and Social Club held a meeting to re-form the Ladies Section of the Hockey Club. Fees were agreed at only 5 shillings to Brush members. During their first year the club played 16 games, winning 12, drawing 1 and losing 3, scoring an impressive 88 goals with only 24 against!!
In May 1977 saw the club move to Burleigh Community College and also saw the first of many name changes, when Burleigh Community College Ladies Hockey Club was formed. After 2 years the club saw another name change, to Charnwood Ladies Hockey Club. Then in 1980 the club moved on again to Derby Road Playing Fields, then via Whitwick moved out of the Charnwood District to Groby Community College.
Another addition to the name was created when the club gained sponsorship from Living Well Health Club and Gym’s and the club became Charnwood Living Well and rose to their current position in the Midlands Premier League.
In 2004 we moved to a new build at Soar Valley Leisure Centre, Mountsorrel and had yet another name change to Charnwood Mountsorrel Ladies Hockey Club. New links were made with Mountsorrel Bedouins Mixed Hockey Club and a joint venture by the two senior sides has seen the development of Mountsorrel Juniors Hockey Club. The club looked to further develop by establishing a second ladies team for the 2006/2007 season.
As it turned out, the two long standing Leicestershire clubs of Charnwood Ladies HC and Sileby Ladies HC were fully amalgamated for 2007/08 season to become Charnwood Sileby ladies hockey club. It formally came about after the two clubs worked together on a trial basis for a year to see how the mixture of young and old, experience and passion could come together. This successful pilot was concluded at an extraordinary meeting in Aug 2007 where the constitution was agreed and adopted.
Not only was there a reformation of the two teams (seeing movements in both directions), but a new junior section was formed by adding a further pitch slot for new young players to receive training. It’s wasn't just about training either, the club took the opportunity to enter the fledgling team in the New LRHA Vixens leagues. As well as establishing a 3rd team for the 2009/10 season.
In 2010-2011 we had a strong season for the club with both teams placing mid table dispite a huge shift in players from the previous season. The new additions to the club linked well with those of us who have been round for a while to strengthen and develop both the teams and overall club. The club once again entered a team into the Leicestershire Cup/Plate competition where we were able to retain our position as plate winners for the second year in a row becoming the only team in the competitions history to do this.
Continuing to build towards a sound future, the club currently has the ‘Clubs First’ accreditation mark. Thus it ensures that club policies, child welfare and appropriate coaching is core to the club's continuing development where, it is hoped, a bright and long future will be there for all our members. We are developing our members and club not only through training and matches, but also by helping them achieve coaching and umpiring awards. We look forward to hopefully a successful 2011-2012 season.
