A New Home
After being abruptly kicked out of our old match day venue Charnwood Sileby were left homeless with nowhere to host the travelling opposition. A plea for a venue to take us in, were answered by the Stag and Pheasant, Mountsorrel who were more than willing to help us with our conundrum. A warm and friendly place situated very close to our home pitch at Mountsorrel, we look forward to a pleasant future with the local establishment.

Positive end to the season for Charnwood Sileby Ladies Hockey Club – Plate winners 2010!!
After all three Charnwood teams had battled through a challenging season in their individual leagues they came together to complete the season in a positive way. Charnwood put together a team consisting of a mixture of club players and they were delighted to reach the final of the 2010 Leicestershire & Rutland Plate competition. The final took place on the 10th April against Loughborough Town at St. Margaret’s Pastures.
Charnwood worked well as a team from the beginning. They enjoyed lots of early possession and demonstrated good quick passing skills. Their efforts paid off and they were first to open the scoring when Lorraine Foulds hit the ball from the edge of the semi circle and it bobbled past the keeper. A confident Charnwood then continued to battle well. Karen Setchell worked hard in midfield distributing the ball out wide to Rebecca Belk and Abigail Perry on the wings. Charnwood were able to extend their lead to 2-0 when a well-worked penalty corner found Belk who calmly slipped the ball past the keeper. Unfortunately for Belk an injury meant she had to retire from the game shortly after the goal.
Great saves from Harriet Galpin in goal and good clearances from the Charnwood defence meant Charnwood were able to keep their lead for a good period of time but Loughborough did manage to get a goal back when a strike unfortunately rebounded off a Charnwood stick into the back of the net. Loughborough could have equalised when they were awarded a penalty flick. Galpin however pulled off an amazing save with her stick, ensuring Charnwood could hold on to their lead until half time.
Charnwood approached the second half with the plan of putting the pressure on early and hopefully sneaking a goal to extend their lead. They succeeded and ensured a two-goal cushion when Charnwood moved the ball around in the semi circle finding Perry who struck the ball past the keeper from the right hand side. Loughborough responded well to the goal though and soon got a goal back on the break. It was then a nerve-wracking time for Charnwood who didn’t want to lose their lead. An unfortunate injury to a Loughborough Town player meant that both teams had to wait nervously as play was suspended just two minutes from the end of the match. When the match was allowed to continue Loughborough looked as if they could snatch that equaliser when they won a penalty corner as the final whistle went. Charnwood though were over the moon and relieved when they were able to clear the ball out of play. This left the score at 3-2 to Charnwood – A well deserved win. It was a great game to watch in the sunshine with great performances from both teams. Well done everyone.
Charnwood Sileby would like to thank UK Precast Concrete manufacturer FP McCann of Ellistown, Coalville for their support and sponsorship this season.
